FOB Ningbo for Sock Orders: Port, Fees and Timing

FOB Ningbo for Sock Orders: Port, Fees and Timing

FOB Ningbo socks pricing only helps when the quote states what the supplier pays in China and what moves to the buyer's forwarder. For sock orders made in Zhejiang, Ningbo is a common export port because Datang, Zhuji, Yiwu, and Shaoxing can truck cargo there in one day. The port name is only one part of the work. Carton data, cutoff dates, customs papers, inspection timing, and local charges decide whether the shipment leaves on time. This guide gives practical numbers for brand owners and importers buying FOB Ningbo socks.

Table of Contents

What FOB Ningbo Means for Sock Orders

FOB Ningbo means the supplier pays China side costs until the socks are loaded on the vessel at Ningbo Zhoushan Port. Under Incoterms 2020, risk transfers after loading. The buyer pays ocean freight, cargo insurance if used, destination port charges, import duty, customs entry, and final delivery.

A serious FOB Ningbo socks quote should include the sock unit price, export carton packing, inland trucking from the factory to Ningbo, China export customs declaration, terminal handling, and normal origin document charges. It should name the port as Ningbo, not only China port.

For a factory in Datang, Zhuji, the truck distance to Ningbo is usually 180 to 220 km. A full container truck often takes 3.5 to 5 hours in normal traffic. The supplier should receive booking details 10 to 14 days before the planned sailing. Loading is usually arranged 1 to 2 days before the terminal cutoff.

Which Ningbo Port Area Handles Sock Exports

Most sock exports move through Ningbo Zhoushan Port. The exact terminal may be Beilun, Meishan, or another Ningbo terminal chosen by the carrier route. The supplier does not pick the terminal alone. The forwarder sends the booking confirmation, vessel name, voyage, container yard, shipping instruction deadline, and cargo cutoff time.

FCL and LCL move through different steps. For FCL, an empty 20GP or 40HQ is picked up, loaded at the factory or warehouse, sealed, and trucked to the terminal. For LCL, cartons go to a Ningbo CFS warehouse first. The warehouse loads cartons from several shippers into one container.

What Fees Are Included in an FOB Ningbo Socks Quote

The product price depends on construction before it depends on the port. A basic 144 needle cotton crew sock may quote around USD 0.45 to 0.95 per pair FOB Ningbo at normal bulk volume. A 168 needle sport sock with half terry cushioning may run USD 0.70 to 1.35 per pair. A 200 needle dress sock, wool blend sock, grip sock, or compression sock can sit above that range because yarn, knitting time, and finishing steps cost more.

MOQ also affects price. Many factories price custom socks from 500 to 1,000 pairs per design. ZheSock can handle 100 pair MOQ on many custom sock programs, but the unit price is higher because design setup, machine adjustment, sample work, packing, and export handling are spread across fewer pairs.

Origin fees inside FOB can include local trucking, customs declaration, terminal handling charge, document fee, seal fee, and normal port service fees. For one 20GP or 40HQ, China side origin charges inside the FOB price are often about USD 180 to 450, depending on carrier, terminal, and forwarder arrangement. For LCL socks from Ningbo, origin warehouse and handling charges are often quoted around USD 25 to 60 per CBM.

What Fees Are Not Covered Under FOB Ningbo

FOB is not a landed price. After the socks are loaded at Ningbo, the buyer pays the main freight leg and destination side costs. These can include ocean freight, destination terminal handling, CFS fees, customs broker fee, bond or filing fee, import duty, port storage, exam charges if selected, and inland truck delivery.

Small LCL shipments can cost more than expected after arrival. A 2 CBM sock shipment to Los Angeles may have destination handling, CFS, filing, and local delivery charges of roughly USD 450 to 900 before duty. That can push the landed cost per pair far above the factory quote. Ask for a destination fee estimate before approving a small LCL order.

Carton data matters early. A common sock export carton holds 120 to 240 pairs. Carton volume is often 0.045 to 0.075 CBM, depending on sock thickness and retail packing. A 40HQ may load roughly 58 to 68 CBM in practical use. Final loading still depends on carton size, carton strength, and whether cartons can be stacked without crushing the goods.

Production, Inspection, and FOB Ningbo Timing

Sampling usually takes 5 to 10 days after artwork, size table, yarn type, Pantone color, logo method, and packing method are confirmed. Bulk production for common cotton or polyester socks often takes 20 to 35 days after sample approval and deposit. 200 needle dress socks, full terry sports socks, grip printing, compression knitting, and special yarn colors can add 5 to 12 days.

Write the sock specification before knitting starts. A clear spec may state 168 needle crew socks, combed cotton blend, 22 cm leg length, half terry foot, 38 to 42 g per pair, 120 pairs per export carton, and one polybag per pair. Thin socks may be 18 to 28 g per pair. Heavy terry socks may be 45 to 80 g per pair. Fabric GSM is less useful for socks than grams per pair, but terry sections can still be checked by weight and thickness.

Quality control should happen before cartons leave the factory. A normal final inspection can use AQL 2.5 for major defects and AQL 4.0 for minor defects. Inspectors check pair matching, size, weight, needle lines, loose yarn, stains, logo position, cuff stretch, toe linking, barcode scans, carton marks, and carton gross weight. For a 5,000 pair order, the inspection should pull samples from finished cartons across sizes and colors. Not just the top carton.

After final inspection, allow 1 to 2 days for carton sealing, carton marks, pallet decision if needed, truck booking, and customs data. Ningbo export customs can clear in 1 day when invoice, packing list, HS code, shipper data, and booking details match. Bad carton numbers cause delays. Fix them before the truck leaves.

How Buyers Should Compare FOB Ningbo Quotes

Compare the sock first. Then compare the freight term. Two FOB Ningbo socks quotes can look close while using different machines. A 144 needle sock is usually less fine than a 168 or 200 needle sock. A 200 needle sock normally gives sharper logo detail, but it can cost more and may not suit thick terry styles.

Ask every supplier for the same quote sheet: MOQ per design and color, sample fee, sample time, bulk lead time, yarn content, needle count, grams per pair, sock length, logo method, packing method, pairs per carton, carton dimensions, gross weight, CBM, payment terms, inspection standard, and FOB port. Missing packing detail is a common reason for late price changes. Retail packing can add about USD 0.03 to 0.18 per pair, depending on hangtag, hook, barcode label, header card, or individual bag.

Check certificate claims carefully. OEKO-TEX, GOTS, GRS, ISO 9001, BSCI, Sedex, and CE documents must match the supplier, material, product scope, or factory scope being claimed. Do not accept a certificate photo with the wrong company name or an expired date. Ask for the certificate number and valid scope before putting claims on packaging.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is FOB Ningbo better than EXW for sock orders?

FOB Ningbo is usually better for importers who already have an ocean forwarder. The supplier handles China inland trucking, export declaration, and normal origin port work. EXW can look cheaper, but your forwarder must collect from the factory and arrange export steps. On a small sock order, pickup and declaration fees can erase the EXW saving.

What is the usual MOQ for FOB Ningbo socks?

Many custom sock factories start at 500 to 1,000 pairs per design and color. ZheSock can support 100 pair MOQ on many custom programs, but the price per pair is higher. Even 100 pairs need artwork setup, yarn choice, machine adjustment, sample checking, packing, and export handling.

Can I ship a small sock order FOB Ningbo by LCL?

Yes. LCL works for trial orders, mixed sizes, and mixed SKU shipments. It is most common around 1 to 3 CBM. Plan for a CFS cutoff 3 to 5 days before sailing and ask your forwarder for destination charges before booking.

What documents are needed for FOB Ningbo socks?

The core documents are commercial invoice, packing list, booking confirmation, customs declaration data, and bill of lading. Many buyers also need fiber content, care label details, carton marks, HS code, and certificate of origin. For OEKO-TEX, GOTS, GRS, ISO 9001, BSCI, Sedex, or CE claims, the document must match the product or factory scope.

When should I book the vessel for FOB Ningbo socks?

For FCL, start booking 10 to 14 days before the cargo ready date. For LCL, start at least 14 days ahead because the CFS cutoff can be 3 to 5 days before sailing. The forwarder needs shipper details, gross weight, carton dimensions, CBM, and cargo ready date. Do not wait until every carton is sealed if carton count and CBM are already stable.
